Fanarakia, the feast of the Finding of the Icon of Panagia Tinos…

On January 30, the day of the Finding of the miraculous Icon of the Virgin Mary, the "Lanterns" are celebrated.
The vision of Agia Pelagia was followed by extensive excavations and on January 30, the pickaxe of Emmanuel Matsa (Spanos) located the Holy Icon. The joyful news spread throughout the island and the villagers began their journey to Chora to worship. The night had fallen and the lanterns they held, created a spectacular image, illuminating the route to Chora.
Since then, every such day was introduced the candlelight called Lanterns.

Day 1: Chalkida - Rafina - Tinos
Boarding the ship and sailing to Tinos. Arrival on the island and going to the Church of Megalocharis for pilgrimage. In the Holy Foundation of Megalochari we will see the Church of the Find, the mausoleum of Elli, the museum of Byzantine icons and relics and the great art gallery. Transfer to the hotel and arrange in the rooms. At 15.00 attend the Procession of the Holy Icon with full ecclesiastical order and celebration of a Great Vespers Pontifical Vespers. In the afternoon free time. In the evening at 22.00 attend the Holy Vigil at the Church of The Discovery. Night.
Day 2: Tinos - Tour of the island
Go to the Church of Megalocharis for pilgrimage and attendance of the Divine Liturgy. Return to the hotel. Breakfast. Departure for the tour of the island. Visit and pilgrimage to the monastery of Agia Pelagia. Passing through the beautiful villages of Skalados, Kampos, Kardiani, Ysternia we end up in the largest village of Tinos, Pyrgos. Visit to the house and museum of the sculptor Giannoulis Halepas and free time for a nice coffee in the central square of the village with the perennial plane tree. Return to Tinos. At noon, the procession of the Holy Icon in the city and the memorial service in the tombs of the Founders of the Panseptos Church and the Holy Consecration are monitored. In the afternoon, watching the custom "The Lanterns", where the massive turnout of the Tinians from every corner of the island is revived with the lit lanterns in their hands to worship the icon of the Virgin Mary. The Philharmonic orchestra of the Municipality, the students of Elementary, High School and Lyceum, as well as young children as well as adults of all ages, holding from a Lantern with colorful transparent membranes starting from the Virgin Mary and passing through the narrow streets, sing marches about this great celebration of Tinos. Night.
Day 3: Tinos - Rafina - Chalkida
Breakfast. Transfer to the port. Boarding the ship and sailing to Rafina.
